Regrets From Yesterday? Grab That Leash And Leave Regrets Behind

Regret is a normal part of life and an emotion that we all experience at some point in our lives. This negative emotion can have damaging effects on your wellbeing and life if you don’t learn how to let it go. If you find yourself dwelling on your regret, then it’s time to change your way of thinking.

Grab your leash and head outdoors with your pup. The change of pace with your best bud will help you change your way of thinking to a more positive approach.

Accept the Situation

Take a lesson from your pup and think about the situation that you feel regretful about. If there’s nothing you can do to change the situation, then its time to accept it. You don’t see your pup worrying about things they can’t change, and neither should you.

Accepting your situation will allow you to spend your mental energy on things you can control. It also will help you to realize that placing blame on yourself is unfounded.

Learn From the Experience

You’re out for a stroll with your pup, and they find an abandoned chicken wing under a bush. From that point on your dog needs to check the magical chicken wing bush. This is your pup learning from a situation in life and using that information to improve their future.

You can do this too. Think about the situation you feel regretful for. What part of the situation made you feel regretful? Learn from the experience and apply the lesson to future situations.

Look for the Positive

Regret is a negative emotion. Instead of dwelling on the negative, try to reframe the situation into a positive one. Did anything good come from it? Focus on the positives and reframe how your brain sees the situation.

You take your pup to the vet, and he’s NOT HAPPY. But then the vet gives them their favorite treat after the exam. Instead of letting the vet visit ruin their entire day your pup leaves happy they got a delicious treat. Learn from your pup and focus on the treat, not the vet.

Repair the Damage

One way you can address your regret is by repairing the situation. Has your pup ever brought you his favorite toy after you discover he made a huge mess? It’s his way of saying, “I’m sorry I destroyed the house, and I know you’re mad”.

Take a look at your regretful situation and think about ways you can correct it or make it right. Maybe this means you should apologize to someone. Or perhaps it means you need to speak up about what you really want.

Taking action to correct the situation will give you a sense of ownership and accomplishment. It can also help you from feeling even more regretful about not doing anything after the fact.

Support Your Friends and Loved Ones

You don’t have to go through life alone. Turn to your friends and family for support and guidance. An outside party can help you see your regret from a different point of view. Or they can provide a supportive ear to simply listen.

If you don’t feel comfortable talking to another person, your pup is always there. Take a break on your walk for the two of you to enjoy some water. As you sip from a water bottle and your pup laps from their disposable water bowl, you can tell them about what’s bothering you.

Just saying it out loud can help you release your stress and your hold on the situation.

Don’t Live with Regret

You can avoid living with regret by asking yourself how you’ll feel about your choices later on. This will help you make the best choice at the moment.

If it’s too late and you already feel regret, then grab your leash and get some fresh air with your four-legged friend. Tell them about the situation as you determine if there’s anything you can do to fix your regret.

Grab your rope leash and head out with your pup to let go of your regrets.
